Natural range:  Throughout most of Florida except the western Panhandle

Habitat:   Disturbed sites, often moist

Florida status:  Native and endemic

Recognition:  Low pineland, or coastal strand. Panicle open and spreading, the grass rhizomatous.  Side awns much shorter than (less than half as long as) the central awn.
