Dichanthelium aciculare (Desv. ex Poir.) Gould & Clark

Natural range:   Southern and eastern U.S. to South America

Synonym: Panicum aciculare Desv. ex Poir.

Habitat:  Dryish sandy sites

Florida status:  Native, common

Recognition:  Lower culms pubescent. Leaf blades very narrow (ca. 3[9] mm typical).  Spikelet 2 mm.

Compare with similar D. portoricense, which has blunt (vs. pointed) glume, short leaves 2-7 cm long to 10 times as long as wide (vs. leaves to 14 cm long and to14 times as long as wide, also having prominent veins). Compare also with D. ensifolium, which has spikelets 1.3-1.5 mm long vs. 2 mm.
