Eragrostis spectabilis (Pursh) Steud.

Natural range:   Canada to Mesoamerica

Habitat:  Weedy

Recognition:  Rhizomatous.  Leaves to about 4-8 mm wide.  Inflorescence open and showy, often purple, generally not elevated on the culm, and often with the lower branches among or near the uppermost leaves. Branches with a tuft of hair at the base (vs.  E. pectinacea).  Spikelets 3-7.5 mm long, 1-2 mm wide.  The two glumes essentially equal, or subequal, each roughly 1.3 mm, or the lower a little shorter and the upper a little longer. Florets 6 to12.
