Torpedo Grass

Natural range: Unclear; the grass is extremely widespread globally.

Habitat: Usually in wet places, often along shores

Florida status: Nuisance weed, probably introduced. Mostly, but not always, in wet places

Recognition: Stoloniferous. Up to almost 3’ tall. Spikelets 2.8 mm, often gaping (but differs from Steinchisma hians by having truncate first glume). Lower glume 1/5-2/5 the length of the spikelet, truncate (similar species with acute or acuminate glumes, except for P. dichotomiflorum). Leaves 2-ranked, folding (vs. flat leaves in P. dichotomiflorum).
