Leptochloa fusca (L.) Kunth

Natural range: Warm climates worldwide

Habitat:  Wet marshy areas

Recognition:  Short (< 1 m) or tall  (2 m) grass of wet sites, the main panicle branches long and thin.  Ligules very long, to 8 mm. lacerate.  Spikelets laterally compressed.  Lemmas notched or lobed, short-awned. Differs from L. panicea by being usually awned.  Spikelets 5-12 mm long (vs. 2-4 mm in L. panicea.)
