Habitat: Variable, wet or dry, sandy, disturbed

Florida status: Native

Recognition: Rhizome thick, knotty. Achene warty or patterned, glabrous (vs. S. reticularis), the hypogynium tuberculate (vs. smooth in S. reticularis) and minimally lobed (vs. with bractlike lobes in S. reticularis). The plants are not necessarily pubescent despite the species name.
