Natural range:  Southeastern U.S.

Habitat:  Dry sandy areas, dry flatwoods, occasionally wet sites

Recognition:   Large attractive grass.  Leaf blades with characteristic large (to 4 mm).  Bifid ligules.  With lopsided (one-sided) inflorescences.  Spikelets fuzzy and long-awned (3-4 cm).

Florida status:  Native, also cultivated
