Sporobolus virginicus (L.) Kunth

Natural range:  Coastal (usually) southern U.S. to South America

Habitat:  Usually beaches and saline shores

Florida status:  Native, common

Recognition:  Tough maritime grass, the leaves strongly distichous.  Spikes narrow (1 cm wide), congested.  Spikelets ca. 3 mm long, often purplish
