Natural range:   Widespread in the eastern U.S., to South America

Habitat:  Wet swampy sites

Recognition:   Large species (2 m tall) with the 1-several inflorescence branches pencil-shaped and segmented.

Florida status:  Native, occasional in our area,  very popular in landscaping
