Urochloa 
Urochloa maxima (Jacq.) R. Webster

Guinea Grass

Synonym:  Panicum maximum Jacq.

Natural range:  Africa, widely naturalized in tropical and subtropical regions

Habitat: Disturbed sites, sometimes forming dense stands

Florida status: Invasive exotic weed, very common and aggressive, one of the most abundant and conspicuous larges grasses in our area; found in every weedy location

Recognition:  Although may be as small as 0.5 m tall, may grow to over 3 m tall.  One of the largest uncultivated grasses in our area.   Panicle with the main branches whorled.  Fertile lemma white, with strong horizontal wrinkles.
