Cyperus croceus Vahl Baldwin's Flatsedge Synonym: Cyperus baldwinii Torrey Natural range: Northern U.S. to South America Habitat: Weedy, open sunny places, often moist Recognition: Spikelets scales unusually long (2.3-3.6 mm) and achenes likewise unusually long (2-2.4 mm). This species resembles C. retrorsus and has in some classifications been treated as a synonym. The latter has more-cylindric spikelet clusters, and 40-120 (vs. 10-50) rounded (vs. flat) spikelets. Florida status: Native. This is one of the most common, weediest sedges.
