Distribution:  Southern U.S. and some western states

Recognition:  Stigmas 3, the achene triangular.  Spikelets widely spaced with the rachis visible, mostly < 8 mm long, about 1.5-2 mm wide. (Spikelets longer and narrower in similar C. strigosus)

Habitat:  Dryish sandy habitats

Florida status:  Native
