Natural range:  Most of  U.S. to northern South America

Synonym: Panicum acuminatum Sw.

Habitat:  Dryish sandy sites

Florida status:  Native, common

Recognition:  Short, erect plant (15-100 cm) often having leaf margins with papillose-based hairs, at least   basally; ligules of 1-5 mm hairs; spikelets 1.1-2.1 mm long.
