Eleocharis cellulosa Torrey

Distribution: Southern U.S. to Mesoamerica and the Caribbean

Habitat: Brackish or fresh water

Recognition:  Rising to 80 cm and terminating in a spikelet resembling a small cigarette.  Resembles the common E. interstincta but E. cellulosa has the culm spongy and not septate or incompletely septate (vs. completely septate).  Achene bristles smooth (vs. barbed in E. interstincta).

Florida status:  Native, occasional in our area
