Habitat:  Varied moist habitats

Recognition:  Small grassy-leaved species. Leaves to 1(1.5) mm wide (thus narrower than those of the similar and in some interpretations synonymous R. fascicularis with leaves > 1 mm wide);  Spikelets 2-2.5 mm. Achene small, 1-1.2 mm long (1.5 mm in R. filifolia), smooth, bristles with antrorse barbs, shorter than tubercle tip (vs. longer than the tip in R. filifolia), the tubercle 0.2-0.3 mm long (vs. 0.4-0.6 mm in R. filifolia).
