Distribution: Eastern and southern North America

Habitat: Varied moist habitats

Recognition: Achene reticulate, pubescent, the hypogynium with 3 bractlike and smooth lobes.  The similar S. ciliata has the achene glabrous, the hypogynium with 3 stubby lobes (not leaflike), the lobes with 2 tubercles.

Florida status: Native
